The LM78S40, 74AC14, and VP5-0053 components are not included in the Partial Kit. The MP3 player will function without these components, but the board must be provided with two regulated voltages, 5 volts and 3.2 volts.

Step 11, MP3 Player and Power Supply

All of these ICs and the SIMM socket are polarity sensitive. The chips should be alighned as shown here and on the board's white silk screen. The SIMM socket must be installed so that the SIMM is inserted from the side facing the 87C52 and XCS10XL chips. This orientation will place the SIMM's pin 1 on the left side, next to the 10 µF capacitor. The VP5-0053 transformer is symetrical. We build the boards with pin 1 located in the upper left corner.
